Growth Mindset
Today I am connecting you with some resources that I have found to be useful in teaching growth mindset. There are so many great products out there! This is my first year focusing on "mindset" and I am very excited to be adding something new to my counseling curriculum!
These are good resources if you are unfamiliar with growth mindset:
I am going to start with Bulletin Boards. I love this Bulletin Board set on TPT and it is only $1.50. This packet is 18 pages and totally worth $1.50!
The next two bulletin boards were found on Pinterest. I'm not sure who to give credit to but they look a lot like the materials provided in the link above.
The next bulletin board was found at http://www.schcounselor.com
Next, i'm connecting to FREE resources that I have found on TPT.
These books would be great resources as well:
Friday Freebies (Good Character)
Character Traits
I'm in Charge of Me!
Caught With Character
A Salute to Citizenship
It's Cool To Be Kind!
Christmas Kindness
Kind or Unkind Mini Stories to Sort
Citizenship Reading Passage Packet
Playing Fairly
What's Your Ailment? A Lesson on Fair vs. Equal
Sesame Street: Respect Video on YouTube
Respect and Responsibility song on YouTube
Being Responsible song on YouTube

How Santa Got His Job and How Santa Lost his Job (Careers)
It's December and I am working on my career unit with the third graders. I use the books How Santa Got His Job and How Santa Lost His Job as a part of this unit. There are some free resources that you can use with these books. Book Bite has a free activity that focuses on the reasons that Santa lost each one of his jobs and Pitner's Potpourri has a cause and effect activity HERE. You can get retelling cards for How Santa Got His Job HERE and a cause and effect activity HERE.
Purchase How Santa Got His Job HERE.
Purchase How Santa Lost His Job HERE.
I purchased both books but you can definitely do the lesson without How Santa Lost His Job. It is a cute book and has a lesson as well, however the lesson is not as career related as the first book. Make sure you read the book description before purchasing:)
COUNSELING CONNECTIONS:
This is a good resource and it lists the objectives that go along with this lesson!
Here is another resource that I found: Skills and Interests and How they Relate to the Workplace
After we read How Santa Got His Job we talk about the process for finding a job. We talk about where to look (internet, newspaper, etc...) and what type of information might be included in the advertisement. We then talk about the ways that you can apply for a job (phone, resume, etc...) We also talk about interests and the types of traits and skills that may be necessary for different types of jobs. Finally, I have each student apply to be one of Santa's Helpers. Since I can't share any of my own students displays (due to confidentiality) I am going to link you to another blog:
Aren't these cute?!
I send out a WANTED AD to all of the students asking them to apply to be an elf or a reindeer. They then fill out an application applying for the job. Here is a free application:
Or there are several other options on Teacher's Pay Teachers. All of the ones posted are free!
Elves Wanted! Working for Santa Activity (lists skills needed for each job)
ASCA Career Standards:
A: Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make infomred career decisions.
B: Students will employ strategies to achieve future career goals with success and sanctification.
C: Students wil understand the relationship between personal qualities, education, training, and the world of work.
